‘m Jacqui, and this is Jon. We have been clients of Paul Dovey for 15 years, and we have recently joined him at New Path.

When we first met with Paul, there were a couple of things which concerned us. One of which was planning for our retirement, and another was looking into how we could support our family financially with some of the investments we’d collected along the way.

I had an opportunity to meet with Paul through business, as our two businesses were combined. I was very impressed with his level of expertise, but particularly the way he goes about business, and the way he explains products which are quite complicated in a very patient and understanding way, which focuses on his clients’ needs.

Paul has really helped us with looking at our portfolio. He’s looked at how we can adjust our tax bill, particularly the inheritance tax for our three girls was worrying us, so he’s looked at products and investing in different products so that we can protect our girls.

John
I feel very confident working with Paul. Some financial advisers try to almost browbeat you and tell you what you need, whereas it’s always a two-way street with Paul. He asks Jacqui and I what our concerns are, what the implications are of various things happening in the world for us, and we can come back and say “This, this and this” without him having a pre-ordained plan.

We trust Paul, and we trust that the investments we have in place, both for our girls and for our grandchildren, which he’s helped us with, are secure and the best that we can get.

The words that I would use to describe Paul are trustworthy, clear, and patient.

John
The best thing about working with Paul is that when I come off the Zoom call we have for our annual review, I always feel that it’s been a two-way conversation. We’ve not been put under pressure, but we’ve had propositions and solutions put to us, which we feel have arisen from a really good debate and understanding.

The best bit of advice that Paul has given us is not to be too heavily loaded with shares in one company, and also, when we needed to address withholding tax issues, he was able to move forward and find us a specialised accountant, who could help us with reclaiming some of that overpaid tax.

John
Because we trust Paul, and have done so for many years, we’ve been very happy to recommend him to family and friends, and I’m delighted to say that there’s been wonderful feedback from all of those about the work he’s done for them.
